Jordan Daily – Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid has granted a special pardon to North Bank director Nozad Dawood Fattah Al-Jaff, who had been sentenced to prison for embezzling 145 billion dinars (approximately $800 million).
The Presidential Advisory and Expert Authority confirmed there were no legal obstacles to issuing the pardon for Al-Jaff, noting that his crime falls within the category of offenses that can be pardoned under the law.
In a statement released Thursday, the authority said the president referred the request to the legal department, which in turn confirmed there were no legal barriers.
The authority also noted that Al-Jaff is over 65 years old, suffers from cancer, and that the complainants had waived their right to pursue the case.
