Irbid Mayor rejects meeting with British Ambassador over Gaza stance

Jordan Daily – The Mayor of Greater Irbid Municipality, Dr. Nabil Kofahi, refused to meet with the British Ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, citing the UK’s political stance on the war in Gaza.

Kofahi said in press remarks that his office received a request from the British embassy for the ambassador’s visit, which he declined.

He stated that the British government supports genocide in Gaza and emphasized that he represents the Jordanian people who oppose this massacre, calling it a “political stance.” Therefore, he rejected the visit.

He noted that the new British government, like its predecessor, has not changed its position on the war, expressing hope for a shift away from supporting genocide.

Kofahi added that this is not the first time he has refused to meet ambassadors; last year, he declined a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Yael Lempert for the same reasons.
