Ireland to officially recognize Palestine by end of May

By : News Editor

Jordan Daily  – Ireland is poised to officially recognize Palestine as a state by the end of May, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Micheal Martin announced on Wednesday. The exact date, however, remains undisclosed.

Martin, who also holds the position of Ireland’s deputy prime minister, made the declaration on Newstalk radio.

“We will be recognizing the state of Palestine before the end of the month,” Martin affirmed.

This follows a joint statement in March by leaders from Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Malta, expressing their preparedness to acknowledge the Palestinian state.

Ireland has persistently stated that it holds no reservations in formally recognizing Palestine, provided it aids the Middle East peace process.
