Jordan Daily – Member of Parliament Zuhair Mohammed Khashman, head of the Parliamentary Bloc of Centrist Parties, strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of a Palestinian state and approval of the E1 settlement plan.
Khashman said Netanyahu’s remarks, including his claim that Israel’s borders extend to the Jordan Valley, amount to an open declaration of annexation of occupied Palestinian land and a direct assault on Palestinian rights. He warned the moves also pose “a blatant threat” to Jordan’s national security and regional stability.
“The Jordan Valley will remain occupied Palestinian territory under international law,” Khashman said in a statement seen by Jordan Daily. “Any attempt to impose new realities through annexation or settlement is an encroachment on Jordan itself and a violation of international legitimacy.”
He stressed that Jordan, under King Abdullah II, would not tolerate any infringement on its sovereignty or security. “All annexation projects and settlement expansion schemes promoted by the occupation will not pass and will be confronted with a firm Jordanian stance,” he said.
Khashman urged the international community and the U.N. Security Council to end their “deafening silence” and act with binding measures to stop Israeli policies, which he said represent the biggest threat to peace and security in the region and beyond.
He concluded: “Jordan will never compromise on Palestine or Jerusalem, and remains a solid barrier against the occupation’s aggressive schemes.”
