Israeli ministers reject U.S. plan for Palestinian state

Jordan Daily – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and two of his cabinet ministers rejected a reported U.S. proposal to set a deadline for the creation of a Palestinian state, according to the Ynet news site on Sunday.

The proposal, which has not been officially confirmed by the U.S., would reportedly involve a “firm timeline” for the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of a broader peace plan in the Middle East.

Gideon Sa’ar, a cabinet minister , compared the proposal to the “sacrificing of Czechoslovakia in 1938”, referring to the Nazi appeasement strategy, Ynet reported.

Sa’ar, a longtime opponent of Palestinian statehood, also dismissed the idea that a Palestinian state would bring security to Israel, calling it “the biggest absurdity of all”.

Eli Cohen, the energy minister who until recently was foreign minister, told Army Radio that he would not support any peace deal that involved a Palestinian state, even if it meant normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia or other Arab countries.

“If the price of expanding peace agreements is a Palestinian state, then I’ll give up on the peace agreements,” he said.
