Jordan Daily – The Jordanian National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS) received a donation of ultrasound equipment from the Government of Japan in a ceremony held on Monday.

In a statement to Jordan Daily , the equipment, valued at $51,341, was handed over by Mr. OKUYAMA Jiro, the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, to Mr. Salim Khair, Secretary General of the JNRCS.

The donation is part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP), aimed at enhancing the quality of medical services provided by the Jordan Red Crescent Hospital. The hospital, located half a kilometer from the Al-Wehdat refugee camp, has been instrumental in providing medical services to the local population, including camp residents.

In his speech, Ambassador OKUYAMA lauded the JNRCS for its commitment to supporting the health and well-being of Palestinian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians. “Your society’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of Palestinian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians is truly commendable,” he said. “I deeply value and admire your enduring commitment over the decades.”

Responding, Mr. Salim Khair expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its continuous support since the nineties. “Your contribution will enable us to provide better service to the refugees and the most vulnerable in the local communities,” he said.

Since 1993, Japan has extended more than $10 million in grants for 159 projects to NGOs, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan under the GGP scheme.
