Japan to provide $100 million loan to Jordan for electricity sector reform

Jordan Daily – The Government of Japan has extended a budgetary support concessional loan entitled “Electricity Sector Reform and Resilience Enhancement Program Loan (Phase II)” amounting to $ 100 million to support Jordan in its reform program under the Economic Modernization Vision.

The Exchange of Notes was signed in Amman , today between HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and  Zeina Toukan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the presence of  Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the same occasion, Mr. HAYASHI and Toukan signed and exchanged notes for a grant aid of equivalent to approximately  $ 6.5 million for “The Project for Strengthening Capacity of Power System Operation,” according to a statement released by the Embassy of Japan sent to Jordan Daily.

The new grant aid aims to enhance power system operation through the replacement of existing old protection relays with high performance digital protection relays in core substations, thereby providing a stable and reliable electricity supply in Jordan.
