Jordan Daily – The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) conducted 43,960 inspections of food establishments this year, resulting in 290 closures due to various health and safety violations, according to Dr. Nizar Mheidat, Director General of the JFDA.
Additionally, JFDA carried out 1,142 inspections of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical establishments.
Speaking at the Government Communication Forum, themed “Food and Drug Security: Achievements and Challenges,” Dr. Mheidat emphasized the JFDA’s critical role in overseeing the production and sale of food in Jordan. He highlighted that the department’s food and drug evaluations are recognized globally.
Dr. Mheidat also discussed the JFDA’s ongoing efforts to automate its services and enhance electronic monitoring programs , noting that the pricing of medications is based on established criteria, with a dedicated committee currently reviewing these standards.
He added that the incidence of violations in pharmaceuticals is relatively low compared to those found in cosmetic products and medical devices.
