Jordan , France sign loan agreement to finance water efficiency project

Jordan Daily – Jordan signed a 46 million euro loan agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) on Thursday to fund a project to improve water efficiency in the country, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said.

The project , which will be implemented in 3 years, aims to reduce water losses by rehabilitating and upgrading water supply infrastructure and networks, and enhancing energy efficiency in the water sector, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Touqan met with the AFD’s head of department of Eastern Europe – Middle East & Asia ,Cyrille Bellier , and director of AFD’s representative office in Jordan , Laurent Duriez , in the presence of the French Ambassador to Jordan Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison to discuss the progress of the existing projects funded by the agency and the future cooperation plans in the water and sanitation sector and the public sector reform under the fifth memorandum of understanding signed with France in last March, which provides up to € 912 million in funding.

Touqan praised the partnership with AFD and its affiliates, Expertise France and Proparco , and thanked them for their support for Jordan’s development and investment priorities.

Bellier reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to support Jordan’s economic modernization vision and the public sector reform roadmap, according to the statement.
