Jordan Daily – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli Knesset’s decision on Monday to designate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.
The ministry called the move an attempt to politically assassinate the agency and undermine its symbolic affirmation of Palestinian refugees’ right of return and compensation under international law.
Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah emphasized that ongoing Israeli claims and actions targeting UNRWA, aimed at dismantling its pivotal role in providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians as mandated by the UN, constitute a flagrant violation of international law and Israel’s obligations as an occupying power.
Ambassador Qudah highlighted the critical role of UNRWA in delivering essential services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, particularly in Gaza, which is suffering an unprecedented humanitarian disaster due to continuous Israeli aggression since October 7.
He stressed the necessity for the international community to continue providing political and financial support to the agency so it can maintain its indispensable humanitarian mission until the Palestinian issue is resolved based on a two-state solution, establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, lines.
