Jordan dismisses Hamas call to release detainees held over security plot

By : JD

Jordan Daily –  Government source on Tuesday dismissed a statement by the Palestinian group Hamas demanding the release of 16 Jordanians detained over alleged involvement in plots targeting national security.

“Jordan is greater than to respond to factions. It is a state of institutions with a resilient history, while factions have faded away,” the source said, adding, “Those who interfere in our affairs do not understand Jordan, its institutions, or its people.”

The remarks came after Hamas issued a statement yesterday urging the “immediate release” of the detainees, who are being held on charges related to what authorities described as plans to “undermine national security, incite chaos, and commit sabotage.”

Hamas defended the accused, saying their actions stemmed from “honourable national motives” and were driven by support for Palestine, not intended to harm Jordan’s security or stability.

The group also praised Jordan’s stance against proposals to relocate Palestinians from Gaza.
