Jordan Daily – The number of nationalities seeking obesity treatment in Jordan has risen to 72, according to world-renowned obesity surgeon Dr. Mohammed Khrais, a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).

Jordan has made significant strides in obesity surgery, positioning itself as a global and regional leader in this field. It is now recognized as a global center for obesity surgery, with Dr. Khrais’s center at Al Kindi Hospital being a regionally accredited center by the IFSO for training in this specialty.

Dr. Khrais explained that the number of nationalities seeking obesity surgery in Jordan was 52 a few years ago. The advancement in treating complex cases, correcting previous obesity surgeries performed abroad, and the introduction of modern equipment have contributed to an increase in the number of patients and the arrival of patients from new European, African, and American markets.

He added that obesity surgery has become the top specialty in terms of medical tourism and the number of surgeries performed for Arab and foreign patients in Jordan.

Dr. Khrais noted that in recent years, there has been an influx of patients coming for treatment of complications from obesity surgeries performed in other Arab and foreign countries.

He confirmed that Jordan is a global center for performing complex obesity surgeries and treating patients with severe obesity. This adds to a series of successes in the medical sector in Jordan, which enjoys the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
