Jordan , EU to convene 15th Association Council meeting in Brussels

Jordan Daily – The 15th meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council will take place in Brussels tomorrow, Monday.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and the European Commission’s Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

In addition to the council meeting, Minister Safadi is scheduled to meet with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib.

The partnership between Jordan and the EU dates back to 2002, when a Free Trade Zone was established under the 1997 Association Agreement, which came into effect in 2002. Jordan achieved “Advanced Status” with the EU in 2010, and in 2014, the two sides launched a Mobility Partnership to enhance cooperation in migration and mobility.

In 2016, Jordan and the EU adopted the first set of Jordan-EU Partnership Priorities and an agreement addressing the repercussions of the Syrian crisis. This partnership was renewed in 2022, covering the period from 2021 to 2027. The 14th Partnership Council meeting, held on June 2, 2022, at the Dead Sea, marked the first time such a meeting was held in a southern EU neighboring country.

Last month, the first EU-Jordan Business Forum was convened, further strengthening the economic ties between the two partners.
