Jordan imposes export ban on key goods amid Red Sea turmoil

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yousef Al-Shamali announced on Thursday ban on the export and re-export of rice, sugar and vegetable oils, citing the impact of the Red Sea crisis on shipping costs.

The ban, which covers corn, sunflower, palm and soybean oils, follows a recommendation by the Food Security Council last Sunday to restrict the trade of essential commodities.

The Red Sea crisis, which erupted in November after a series of attacks on oil tankers and ports, has disrupted maritime traffic and raised fears of a regional conflict.
