Jordan Daily – Ambassador of Belgium to Jordan, Serge Dickschen, emphasized the strong bilateral relationship between Belgium and Jordan during a King’s Day reception at his residence on Thursday.
Ambassador Dickschen praised in a speech Jordan’s role as “a voice for moderation and peace” in the region, especially during the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He noted Belgium’s participation, saying, “Belgium has taken part this year, under Jordan’s guidance, in the air drops above Gaza,” and has provided essential aid through the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization. However, he cautioned that these efforts “are akin to treating the symptoms rather than curing the disease.”
“What is needed,” Dickschen said, “is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, opening the way for a politically negotiated solution leading to the existence of two sovereign States in full control of their destiny.” He stressed the urgency of resolving the conflict, given the direct impact Middle East instability has on Europe’s security, economy, and political cohesion.

The ambassador also highlighted the pressures Jordan faces due to regional conflicts, commending the kingdom’s resilience but acknowledging that “the grinding impact of consecutive crises on its security and the strain on its social-economic fabric cannot be downplayed.” He affirmed that “Jordan’s stability is in everyone’s interest.”
Dickschen reaffirmed Belgium’s support for Jordan’s reform agenda under King Abdullah II, commending the recent elections as “an important first step” towards political reform. “Jordan has set an example for the region and must stay the course,” he added.
Describing the relationship between Belgium and Jordan as “a strategic partnership between equals,” Dickschen emphasized the importance of multilateralism and noted the close ties between the two royal families. He also pointed to ongoing military cooperation and Belgium’s intention to expand its development activities in Jordan through Enabel, the Belgian development agency.
King’s Day is celebrated annually on November 15 to honor Belgium’s monarchy.
