Jordan Daily – The Ministry of Labor said that approximately 373,000 work permits have been issued to Syrian workers since 2016. It emphasized that Syrian workers are allowed to work and obtain work permits in occupations that are permitted for non-Jordanian workers.
In order to regulate the labor market and create more job opportunities for Jordanians, the ministry has restricted several professions exclusively for Jordanian citizens. These professions include technical, vocational, and office roles, sales positions in stores, maintenance shops, vehicle repair, and various other occupations.
Significantly, Syrian workers have been exempted from paying permit fees since 2016. This decision reflects Jordan’s commitment made following the London Conference in 2016, aimed at supporting the rights and welfare of Syrian workers in the country.
