Jordan Daily – Jordan , under the leadership of King Abdullah II, is at the forefront of ensuring digital protection in the era of technological advancement and electronic communication, according to Dr. Khalil Al-Abdallat, Director of the Human Rights Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Speaking at the opening of a discussion session on digital violence against female journalists on Tuesday, Al-Abdallat highlighted that the government’s programs and plans are built on an approach that emphasizes protection from violence and the enhancement of digital security.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of journalists and ensuring a safe environment for them to practice their profession without fear or threat, both in the physical and virtual world.
Al-Abdallat called for the exchange of views and ideas to find effective solutions to confront the challenges facing female journalists and ensure their safety in the digital work environment ,noting that in the era of media and social communication, the role of journalists remains prominent and vital in conveying the truth and shedding light on the events and phenomena witnessed by our societies.
The government considers journalism a fundamental pillar in supporting democracy and promoting human rights, as it contributes to shaping public opinion and enhances citizens’ participation in political and social life, Al-Abdallat said. He pointed out that the government has achieved significant accomplishments in providing a safe environment for journalists, enabling them to effectively perform their role.
The government has strengthened legislation and policies that ensure press freedom and the safety of female journalists in the workplace, including drafting a public policy for media and government communication to activate communication channels and build trust with the public and media outlets.
Al-Abdallat concluded by saying that the government is working intensively with local and international partners to develop new and effective strategies to address any challenges facing media workers, while continuing efforts to ensure the protection of female journalists and guarantee their right to practice their profession freely and independently.
