Jordan Daily – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, announced the signing of a grant agreement between the Ministry and the Qatar Fund for Development aimed at supplying Syria with natural gas via Jordanian territory.
Al-Kharabsheh explained that the project, fully funded by the Qatar Fund for Development, seeks to address Syria’s acute electricity shortage and improve its infrastructure performance.
The agreement involves using the floating regasification vessel located in Aqaba to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG), convert it, and transport it to Syria via the Arab Gas Pipeline. The project’s initial phase aims to generate up to 400 megawatts of electricity daily, with plans to gradually increase the output at Syria’s Deir Ali power station.
Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that the agreement underscores Jordan’s commitment to regional cooperation and its support for Syria in facing its challenges, stressing the importance of providing necessary aid to neighboring countries to achieve stability and sustainable development.
