Jordan Daily – Interior Minister Mazen Faraya announced that Jordan is reassessing its policies regarding Syrian refugees.
In remarks to media , Faraya revealed that Jordan has welcomed a significant number of refugees, currently amounting to 1.3 million. Despite this substantial influx, international support for Jordan’s efforts in managing the refugee situation remains minimal.
Faraya highlighted that the resettlement of refugees to other countries has been slow, with only 63,000 resettled so far. Additionally, approximately 95,000 refugees have voluntarily returned to Syria, leaving over a million still in Jordan. This situation, according to Faraya, is unsustainable for the country.
“We are working on revising our policies concerning Syrian refugees, especially as there are signs of an emerging humanitarian crisis among the Syrian refugees in Jordan,” Faraya stated.
He affirmed that Jordan does not intend to forcibly repatriate Syrian refugees and that there is no set timeline for their return. Faraya also noted that the Syrian government does not prevent the return of refugees.
