Jordan Daily – Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday with UEG’s Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited, a company of China’s United Energy Group to study the feasibility of a $1.155 billion green hydrogen project in the kingdom.
Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said the project would support Jordan’s transition to clean energy, noting that a target area has been identified for technical studies and that the ministry is open to cooperation with UEG in other fields including gas and oil.
The feasibility study will assess the production of 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually for export, using desalinated seawater and renewable energy from prime sites in Jordan. The study will also determine land requirements and key technical phases, the Ministry said in a statement received by Jordan Daily.
Kharabsheh said the agreement reflects Jordan’s commitment to strengthening the investment climate for green hydrogen and to facilitating preliminary studies to ensure economic and technical viability.
UEG Vice President Lei Guimin thanked the ministry for its trust, highlighting the company’s regional experience. He noted that UEG started Iraq oil & gas operation 7 years ago with 2 concessions and acquired a third concession last year, expressing readiness to expand into Jordan.
