Jordan, Syria agree to unify transport fees, resume rail talks

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Jordan and Syria have agreed to unify transport fees to facilitate smoother trade and passenger movement, Transport Minister Wesam Tahtamouni said on Tuesday.

Following meetings in Damascus, Tahtamouni told media, “We will all witness the impact of Jordanian-Syrian cooperation,” adding that a joint land transport committee will soon convene to address obstacles and streamline procedures.

She said Syria is interested in benefiting from Jordan’s transport expertise and that discussions included reviving the Hejaz railway link, pending maintenance on the Syrian side.

On air transport, Tahtamouni noted Royal Jordanian currently operates 11 weekly flights to Damascus and three to Aleppo.

Her comments followed the signing of a cooperation roadmap by Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani, covering energy, water, trade, and transport.
