Jordan Daily – Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, announced on Tuesday that the country, under the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah, has proactively taken steps to mitigate the impact of international crises on food security. These measures have been instrumental in reducing adverse effects on local communities, families, and the national economy, he stated.
Addressing the 6th General Assembly meetings of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) in Doha, Minister Hneifat acknowledged the pivotal role played by Jordan’s leadership in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the country’s food security. He also expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting the meeting.
During his address to the organization, Minister Hneifat called upon IOFS members to adopt various strategies pertaining to the inventorying of natural resources and investment plans, particularly within the framework of special financing or research funds. He emphasized the importance of establishing regional observatories in collaboration with international institutions dedicated to food security, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme.
Additionally, he stressed the need for supporting countries that host refugees in a manner that reinforces their humanitarian efforts and facilitates the exchange of expertise among member states to share positive experiences.
Minister Hneifat highlighted the urgency of curbing food wastage and emphasized the concept of Preserving Grace, citing studies that indicate wasted food could potentially feed approximately one-third of the global population.
