Jordan Daily – Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that it has an early warning system in place to detect any symptomsof polio, following the confirmation of the first cases of the virus in Gaza. The Ministry confirmed that it had received and tested samples of the polio virus from Gaza.
The samples, which were transported to Jordan by the World Health Organization (WHO), were tested in the Ministry’s laboratories in Amman on Friday.
Mohammad Al-Hawarat, Director of the Communicable Diseases Directorate at the Ministry, expressed Jordan’s readiness to receive additional polio virus samples from Gaza and conduct the necessary tests.
He also noted that the Ministry is actively testing three out of every 100,000 samples from targeted groups within Jordan to ensure that the country remains free of polio.
