Jordan to defend its airspace, calls for end to Gaza aggression, says Safadi

Jordan Daily – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, asserted on Saturday that Jordan is secure and fully capable of defending itself, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.

In an interview with Al Arabiya, Safadi discussed Jordan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt Israeli military aggression onGaza and address the broader regional crisis.

Safadi revealed that Jordan has communicated to both Iran and Israel its intention to shoot down any unauthorized aircraft entering its airspace, underscoring that Jordan will not permit its territory to be used by any party as a battleground.

Reflecting on his visit to Tehran on August 4, 2024, Safadi clarified that the purpose of the trip was to prevent further escalation in the conflict. He made it clear that he did not carry a message from Israel to Iran, emphasizing instead that Jordan’s stance toward Israel has been consistently conveyed from Amman: “Stop the aggression on Gaza, stop the war crimes against the Palestinian people.”

Safadi also noted that ongoing negotiations concerning Gaza remain restricted by conditions set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stressed that Jordan’s immediate priority is to secure a cessation of Israeli military aggression on Gaza.
