Jordan Daily – Imad Tarawneh, the General Manager of Jordan Silos and Supply General Company , reassured that Jordan would not be directly impacted by the non-renewal of the grain export agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
In press remarks ,Tarawneh explained that Jordan has a well-thought-out plan to ensure the strategic reserves of wheat and barley remain secure for an extended period. The country took proactive measures, especially during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, to bolster its stock of wheat.
Notably, He added Jordan emerged as a regional leader in terms of the size of its strategic wheat reserves, peaking for an impressive 18-month period , emphasizing that since 2015, Jordan has diversified its sources and stopped importing wheat and barley from Russian and Ukrainian origins, opting instead for Romanian suppliers.
With a strategic stock of wheat and barley that is both secure and abundant, Jordan can rest assured as it possesses enough supplies to sustain its needs for an impressive 13 month, he noted.
Tarawneh reassured Jordan’s forward-thinking approach and readiness to overcome external challenges, ensuring food security and stability within the country.
