Jordan Daily – Public Prosecutor for Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission has suspended the head of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions from managing the federation, as well as from his role as president of the General Union of Workers in Private Education. The official’s movable and immovable assets have been seized, and a travel ban has been imposed.
The decision also includes the detention of the president of the General Union of Municipal Workers and the union’s treasurer, who were responsible for financial disbursements, along with two liaison officers appointed by the Greater Amman Municipality to the committee managing the Social Services Fund of the Municipalities Union. Their assets have been seized, and they are prohibited from leaving the country.
The case, previously referred by the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission to the Public Prosecutor after appointing an auditor for this purpose, revealed financial irregularities amounting to JD 4.282 million , as well as administrative and legal violations that necessitated judicial referral.
A responsible source stated that investigations confirmed the detainees, including the head of the Social Services Committee/Union President, had misappropriated the aforementioned funds for personal use, contrary to the objectives of the Social Services Fund.
The Public Prosecutor for the Commission has charged the detainees with crimes of abuse of power, embezzlement, embezzlement through forgery, election fraud of the Municipalities Union’s administrative body, and forgery of the administrative body’s records.
No arrest decision was made regarding the Union President due to his advanced age and illness, as verified by medical reports.
It is noteworthy that the Municipalities Union was established in 1954 but remained inactive until 2011 when it was revitalized by the Union President, who prepared his son, now detained, to lead it since 2011.
