Jordan uses electronic ankle monitors for 49 offenders in Q1 – Justice Ministry

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Jordan applied electronic ankle bracelets to 49 first-time offenders as an alternative to jail during the first quarter of 2025, the Ministry of Justice said on Monday.

The electronic ankle bracelet, worn on the defendant’s ankle, is used to monitor movements and enforce court-imposed restrictions without Imprisonment.

Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni previously affirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the use of alternative penalties, as outlined in the government’s policy statement to Parliament.

The move is part of a broader push to expand non-custodial sentences. Nearly 3,700 alternative rulings were implemented in 2024.
