Jordan Daily – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned on Sunday, of a severe escalation in southern Lebanon, emphasizing the dangers of igniting a new war against Lebanon in light of recent developments that included a rocket strike on the Syrian-occupied town of Majdal Shams. This incident resulted in a significant number of casualties among the town’s residents in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The ministry’s official spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Al-Qudah, highlighted the importance of supporting Lebanon and maintaining its security, stability, and the safety of its people and institutions. He stressed the necessity of adhering to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 to prevent further escalation.
Ambassador Al-Qudah pointed out that the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip contributes to increased tension and escalation, threatening to expand the conflict to a regional scale. He underscored the need for effective international action to impose an immediate halt to the aggression and to end the humanitarian catastrophe it is causing. This is essential to protect the Palestinian people from further massacres and destruction and to safeguard regional and international security and stability.
The ambassador added that the escalation in southern Lebanon could lead to serious repercussions, including the expansion of the conflict to a regional level, necessitating urgent international efforts to contain the situation and prevent its deterioration.
