Jordan Daily – Nedal Malo Al-Alein, a Jordanian businessman, said on Saturday that building a new airport in the southern town of Shoubak would serve the tourist attractions of Petra and the Golden Triangle, citing a previous study.

He urged the government and the private sector to invest in low-cost airports and airlines that would offer domestic flights and connect Jordan’s regions, as well as tourist helicopters that would allow visitors to explore the country’s scenic sites.

He said such a project would reduce the costs of transport and shipping, create jobs, and attract local, Arab and international investments.

He also said that having Petra’s name on the global tourist map and the screens of international airports would enhance Jordan’s image and appeal as a destination in the Middle East.

Malo Alein added that another airport in the north would also help to link the governorates and compete with other regional airports by offering low-cost flights to various markets.

He said that both airports would serve multiple areas and neighboring countries and facilitate the movement of tourists and goods.

“This project would be a major investment for the name of Petra, one of the seven wonders of the world, and would draw the attention of travelers and visitors who would want to see Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba in the south.”

He noted that there are many businessmen and companies who are interested in such investments, which would support the vision of economic modernization and development.

He concluded that this idea needs to be reconsidered and prioritized in the investment map, as it will be more feasible and beneficial in the current and future stages.
