Jordan Daily – In a significant move to address the rising threat of drug smuggling, a joint Jordanian-Syrian committee convened yesterday in Amman to bolster cooperation and curb drug trafficking across the Syrian border into Jordan.
Retired Major General and legal expert Dr. Ammar Al-Qudah, expressed optimism regarding the potential reduction of drug smuggling into Jordan, contingent upon effective implementation by the Syrian side.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Al-Qudah emphasized that the menace of drug smuggling transcends national boundaries, impacting the security and well-being of all Arab countries.The need for a concerted, region-wide effort to combat this growing scourge cannot be overstated, stressing the devastating toll drugs take on both Jordanian and Syrian citizens, he likened the effects to “silent terrorism” and a destructive underground economy that shows no mercy.
Preserving national security and stability is of utmost concern to Jordan, prompting an unwavering commitment to combat drug infiltration and criminal activities. Dr. Al-Qudah underscored the country’s resolve to take all necessary measures to safeguard its borders and people.
