Jordanian released after 38 years in Syrian prison

Jordan Daily – A Jordanian citizen, Osama Al-Bataineh, who had been imprisoned in Syria for 38 years, was handed over to his father at the Jaber border crossing on Tuesday morning, according to Sufian Qudah, a spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

Al-Bataineh was detained in Syria in 1986 at the age of 18 while visiting the country. Qudah stated that Al-Bataineh’s health is in a dire condition; he has lost his memory and is unable to speak.

Since his disappearance, the Jordanian embassy in Damascus had inquired about his whereabouts, but Syrian authorities had consistently denied his presence in the country.
