Jordan Daily – A high-level delegation from 14 Jordanian universities, including three public and 11 private institutions, and the Arab Council for Student Training and Innovation (ACSTI) made a landmark visit to Malaysia from November 24 to 30, as part of the UniConnect Program, seeking to foster international academic collaboration.
The delegation, led by Dr. Rami Alazrai, Dean of Scientific Research at the German Jordanian University, coordinated with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) to explore partnership opportunities with Malaysian universities.
The visit, made possible through the efforts of Dr. Radzuwan Ab Rashid, Minister Counsellor of Education at the Embassy of Malaysia in Jordan, included a productive meeting with Dr. Azlinda Azman, Director-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Discussions centered around potential collaboration in academic exchange, research, and technology transfer.
During the visit, the delegation engaged with several Malaysian universities including Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), University of Nottingham Malaysia, Management & Science University (MSU), UCSI University and International Islamic University Malaysia, identifying areas for cooperation across three key pillars: academic exchange, research collaboration, and technology and innovation transfer.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Jordanian and Malaysian institutions, marking the first step in developing a robust framework for future collaboration.
The MoUs aim to enhance knowledge sharing, promote joint innovation, and strengthen educational and research ties between both countries. This initiative highlights the commitment of Jordanian and Malaysian universities to advancing global education and innovation through international partnerships.
Dr. Azlinda Azman emphasized during a meeting with the delegation the Ministry’s support for cross-border collaborations, noting that Malaysia offers matching grants for such initiatives, albeit with a rigorous process. “We encourage more collaboration with international universities and look forward to the opportunities these partnerships will create,” she said.
Dr. Rami Alazrai described the visit as a “significant milestone” in advancing academic collaboration between Jordan and Malaysia. “The signing of several MoUs paves the way for tangible outcomes that will benefit both countries, addressing global challenges through the sharing of knowledge and innovation,” he added.
