Jordan Daily – The head of the Anti -Cybercrime Unit at Jordan’s Public Security Directorate, Mahmoud Al-Maghaira, reported a rise in WhatsApp account hacks, with numerous complaints from citizens whose accounts have been compromised by unidentified hackers. Although such breaches are not new, the frequency of these incidents has increased recently.
Al-Maghaira emphasized the importance of regularly updating WhatsApp and other social media apps to boost account security.
In response to the uptick in cyber threats, the Cybercrime Unit is undergoing upgrades. Under the directives of the Director of Public Security and the Director of Criminal Investigation, the unit is being outfitted with advanced software and tools for digital investigations and evidence recovery. A separate facility is also being prepared for the Cybercrime Unit as part of efforts to enhance its capabilities.
The move reflects a broader initiative to bolster cybersecurity and protect the public from the growing risk of online attacks.
