Jordan Daily – Secretary-General of “Azm” party , Engineer Zaid Naffa on Monday dismissed comments by a U.N. official on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as not reflecting the Jordanian government’s stance.
Naffa said Sima Bahouth, the executive director of the U.N. Women, has no official role and her remarks does not represent Jordan, which has consistently supported the Palestinian cause.
He praised King Abdullah II for leading efforts to end the Israeli aggression on Gaza and uphold the rights of the Palestinians to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He also reaffirmed his party’s backing for the Hashemite leadership, which he said is a source of wisdom and prudence in the world.
Bahouth had said in a statement that more than 100 days had passed since the horrors of Hamas’ attacks on Israel on Oct. 7 and the subsequent violence, especially in Gaza.
She said women and children were the first victims of the conflict and that seeking peace was a duty towards them.
She also said she had heard horrific stories of sexual violence during the attacks and called for accountability, justice and support for the affected.
