Jordan Daily – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, inaugurated the country’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) station in the Al-Risha region of Al-Ruwayshid district on Friday.
The station, owned by Jordan Gas, is part of a pioneering project aimed at supplying industries with CNG.
Al-Kharabsheh highlighted that the project is one of three anticipated CNG production projects in the Al-Risha region. The produced gas will be transported for use in industries as a fuel source via specialized tanks. The project consists of two stations: a main station located in the Al-Risha gas field area and a subsidiary station near consumers.
The initiative aims to exploit the additional quantities produced from the Al-Risha gas field by opening the field to private sector investors to transport the gas from the region to consumption centers after compression and liquefaction. This step is expected to increase reliance on local sources, expand job opportunities, and reduce operational costs for industries.
The project primarily targets supporting the national industry and economic sectors in the Kingdom. The use of natural gas is estimated to save more than 50% compared to diesel and more than 20% compared to heavy fuel. For liquefied gas, the saving rate is estimated at more than 40% of the quantity supplied by the National Petroleum Company to Jordan Gas.
Al-Kharabsheh also pointed out that the ministry is working on delivering natural gas to the cities of Amman and Zarqa as part of its plans to provide a clean, sustainable, and less costly energy source.
Salah Al-Khazaaleh, General Manager of Jordan Gas, expressed his pride in operating the first project of its kind in Jordan, adding that the company will transport the natural gas coming from the Al-Risha station after compression and provide it to national industries.
The project targets the industrial sector and contributes to supporting Jordanian industries by enabling them to compete regionally and globally, he noted.
