Jordan Daily – The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has yet to receive any formal applications for drone-parcel delivery services, despite a successful test run conducted over two years ago, the regulator said on Tuesday.
The test, carried out with a specialized company, demonstrated the potential for drones in postal deliveries. However, the implementation of such a system would require the development of suitable legislative and regulatory frameworks, the TRC said.
In addition to regulatory considerations, adequate infrastructure would be needed to ensure the safe operation of drones and the security of postal parcels.
Since the technical trial, several companies have expressed interest in drone delivery services, but none have officially applied to operate such services, the TRC added.
The regulator also noted that Jordan’s postal sector currently has 196 licensed operators, including 183 with local postal licenses and 12 with international postal licenses.
