
Jordan Daily – Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud, was elected on Tuesday as a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the remainder of the 2025–2027 term, following elections held by the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Sufian Qudah said Hmoud’s election reflects the UN member states’ confidence in his competence, integrity, and ability to contribute professionally to the ICJ’s work in upholding international law.
Qudah noted that Hmoud’s election also underscores the international community’s respect for Jordan’s principled positions and its commitment to international legality, multilateral diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
He also extended Jordan’s gratitude to all countries that supported Hmoud’s candidacy, reaffirming the Kingdom’s firm support for the ICJ as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and its commitment to promoting the rule of law as a cornerstone of international peace and stability.
