King , British Foreign Secretary discuss ways to reduce escalation in Palestinian territories

Jordan Daily- His Majesty King Abdullah II received, on Thursday, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, in the presence of His Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, according to a statement by the Royal Court.

His Majesty affirmed the depth of the historical relations between the two countries and the need to enhance cooperation in various fields, and to maintain close coordination to protect the common interests.

The King expressed his appreciation for the economic and development support provided by Britain to Jordan, as well as the aid allocated to refugees.

The meeting touched on the latest regional and international developments, and the importance of intensifying efforts to push for calm, reduce escalation in the Palestinian territories, and stop any unilateral measures that would destabilize and undermine the chances of achieving peace.

His Majesty reaffirmed the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting also touched on the refugee crisis and its effects on host communities, the importance of continuing to provide international support and working to find political solutions to the region’s crises to prevent the emergence of more refugee crises, and to enable refugees to return voluntarily and safely to their countries.

For his part, the British Foreign Secretary praised Jordan’s efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in hosting refugees and providing them with educational and health services, expressing his appreciation for the efforts made by the Kingdom to work towards achieving peace in the region.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of His Majesty’s Office Jaafar Hassan, and British Ambassador to Amman Bridget Brind.
