Jordan Daily – His Majesty King Abdullah, at a meeting on Tuesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirmed keenness to maintain Arab coordination to support the Palestinians and their just cause.
During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah stressed Jordan’s unwavering position towards the Palestinian cause, noting that the Kingdom will continue to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite Custodianship.
His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s full support for the Palestinians in seeking to attain their legitimate rights and the establishment of their sovereign and viable state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King highlighted the importance of the international community’s support in protecting the Palestinians, as well as stepping up efforts to find a political horizon that paves the way to relaunching serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Palestinian issue, on the basis of the two-state solution.
His Majesty warned against the repercussions of the absence of a political horizon on regional security and stability, calling for ending all illegal unilateral Israeli measures.
The King also stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and consultation with the Palestinians on issues of mutual interest.
For his part, President Abbas commended Jordan’s unwavering positions, under His Majesty’s leadership, and the Kingdom’s steadfast support for the Palestinians and their cause internationally.
Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, and the accompanying Palestinian delegation attended the meeting.
