King receives Swedish Foreign Minister

Jordan Daily – His Majesty King Abdullah II received Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Tuesday, discussing the latest regional developments and the dire situation in Gaza.

According a Royal Court statement , the King emphasized the necessity of an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the region , stressing the importance of the international community bearing its responsibilities to intensify the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza in a sustainable manner and by all possible means without obstruction or delay.

His Majesty reiterated the need to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to perform its vital role in accordance with its UN mandate, especially in light of the tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The King warned of the acts of violence perpetrated by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank.

His Majesty affirmed the need to find a political horizon to achieve fair and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He appreciated Sweden’s position in support of efforts to achieve peace according to the two-state solution, its support for a ceasefire in Gaza, and its resumption of support for UNRWA.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of His Majesty’s Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan, and Swedish Ambassador to Amman Alexandra Rydmark.
