King, UAE president discuss regional developments, ties

Jordan Daily – His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any Israeli measures to annex the West Bank and displace Palestinians, as well as any plans for Gaza that involve displacing its population or separating it from the West Bank, according to a royal court statement.

During a meeting with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, discussions also covered the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and the UAE, as well as readiness to expand cooperation across various sectors, in service of shared interests and Arab causes.

The two leaders affirmed their support for the rights of Palestinians, and their commitment to continuing efforts at the international level to push for just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which they reiterated is the only way to achieve stability in the region.

The two leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for the continued, uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid, reiterating their rejection of Israeli plans aimed at consolidating the occupation of Gaza and expanding military control over it.

The leaders stressed their rejection of plans for settlement expansion in the West Bank, which undermine the two-state solution and threaten security, stability and opportunities for peace in the region. They also denounced Israeli positions and statements that threaten the sovereignty of countries in the region.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the talks.

From the Emirati side, attendees included Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and a number of senior officials.
