King, US president hold talks in White House

Jordan Daily – His Majesty King Abdullah II reiterated during talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, that he will put Jordan’s interests above all else.

Speaking to journalists before bilateral talks with the US president, His Majesty stressed that achieving stability, peace, and prosperity in the region is a collective responsibility.

The King said Egypt and Arab countries will present a plan on Gaza, noting that it is important to find a solution that takes everyone’s interests into consideration, including peoples in the region and especially the Jordanian people.

In bilateral talks followed by expanded ones attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the two leaders stressed the importance of the ties of friendship between Jordan and the United States, and building on their strategic partnership.

His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s firm stance towards the Palestinian cause, and the need to achieve just and comprehensive peace that fulfils all the rights of the Palestinian people on their national soil and guarantees stability for all, on the basis of the two-state solution.

The King reiterated the need to maintain the Gaza ceasefire, step up the humanitarian response, and rebuild Gaza.

In remarks to journalists, His Majesty said around 2,000 children diagnosed with cancer or who are in a very ill state in Gaza will be medically evacuated to Jordan for treatment, as part of Jordan’s efforts to enhance the humanitarian response in Gaza.

The King expressed appreciation for President Trump’s pivotal role in reaching the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The meeting also covered developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem, with the King stressing the need to take the necessary steps to prevent the deterioration of the situation.

His Majesty noted the important role of the United States and President Trump in supporting efforts to achieve just peace and security and stability in the region, expressing keenness to work with the president to achieve that.

For his part, President Trump highlighted the enduring relations between Jordan and the United States, and thanked His Majesty for the Kingdom’s longstanding commitment to achieving peace in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the US Dina Kawar attended the meeting, along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
