Korea contributes $1 million to support UNICEF’s efforts for Syrian refugees in Jordan

Jordan Daily – UNICEF has welcomed a $1 million contribution from the Republic of Korea to support essential Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services, as well as child-sensitive justice and protection systems for Syrian refugees in Jordan.

This funding will benefit over 78,000 refugees in Za’atari camp by ensuring continued access to safe water and sanitation.

The partnership will also enable the creation of child-friendly interview rooms in Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps, along with host communities, to support vulnerable children in contact with the law. Specialized training will be provided to social workers and law enforcement on trauma-informed, child-sensitive approaches.

Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative to Jordan, expressed in a statement gratitude for Korea’s support in providing critical services, while Ambassador Kim Pil-woo reaffirmed Korea’s commitment, highlighting their contributions of over $32 million since 2011 for refugees in Jordan.

Through this partnership, UNICEF and the Republic of Korea reaffirm their commitment to ensuring that families have access to essential services that provide protection, stability, dignity, and hope for vulnerable children and families.
