Jordan Daily – South Korea’s ambassador to Jordan, Kim Pil-woo, marked his country’s National Day with a reception in Amman on Tuesday, highlighting more than six decades of friendship and cooperation between Korea and Jordan.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Namrouqa as guest of honour, Kim recalled the origins of Korea’s National Foundation Day, known as Gaecheonjeol, celebrated on Oct. 3 to mark the birth of the first Korean kingdom in 2333 BC.

“Korea and Jordan are geographically distant, but bound by shared values, principles and dreams,” Kim said. He described bilateral relations as “a quiet but profound friendship, cooperation, respect and cultural exchange” since the two countries established ties more than 60 years ago.

He praised Jordan’s “rich heritage, steadfast resilience and warm humanity,” adding that the partnership between the two nations had gone beyond commerce and diplomacy to form “a tapestry of trust, stitched with mutual understanding and hope.”

The reception opened with traditional Korean percussion performed by students of the King Sejong Institute in Amman and concluded with a performance by the Korean piano trio Illini. Guests were also invited to sample Korean cuisine.
