Jordan Daily – The Malaysian Embassy in Amman hosted a reception to mark Malaysia’s National Day and Malaysia Day, with officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and other guests in attendance. Minister of Culture, Mustapha Al-Rawashdeh, was the guest of honor at the event.
“Malaysia turns 67 this year, a testament to 67 years of nation-building, unity, and prosperity despite our diverse ethnicities, religions, and customs,” said Malaysian Ambassador Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman. He highlighted Malaysia’s transformation from a resource-based economy during colonial times to one of the fastest-growing economies today, driven by manufacturing and services.
Ambassador Abdul Rahman also spoke on the strong ties between Malaysia and Jordan, which date back to 1965. The two countries have cooperated across various sectors, including tourism, education, Islamic banking, pharmaceuticals, and energy , expressing optimism that trade and investment between the countries would continue to grow.
Additionally, Malaysia is actively working with Jordan to address humanitarian needs in Gaza. “We have partnered with Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Palestinian Affairs on multiple relief efforts,” said the ambassador. Malaysia has also supported Palestinian cancer patients in collaboration with the King Hussein Cancer Centre and contributed to the maintenance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque through Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
Education remains a cornerstone of bilateral ties, with 1,856 Malaysian students currently studying in Jordan and 1,603 Jordanians enrolled at Malaysian universities. “The partnership between our academic institutions is stronger than ever,” the ambassador said, noting 28 active Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and 191 Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) supporting joint research initiatives.
Jordan has been a recipient of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) since 1986. As of July 2024, 510 Jordanians have participated in MTCP programs across sectors like agriculture, finance, education, and technology, the Ambassador concluded.
Minister Al-Rawashdeh congratulated Malaysia on its National Day, emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two countries. “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in the mid-1960s, Jordan and Malaysia have enjoyed growing ties, particularly in politics and academia,” he said, adding that thousands of Malaysian students are studying Arabic and Islamic law at Jordanian universities.
