Jordan Daily – Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela arrived in Amman on Sunday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Malta and Jordan,
Abela, who travelled from Rome after attending the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, was received at Queen Alia International Airport by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat, Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, Amman Governor Yasser Adwan, Malta’s Ambassador to Jordan George Said Zammit, and other officials.
In a Facebook post, Abela said the visit is expected to bolster cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. He added that his engagements in Jordan would also reflect “the government’s social conscience.”
Tourism exchanges between Malta and Jordan have grown in recent years. The most high-profile Jordanian investment in Malta is the American University of Malta, owned by Jordanian businessman Engineer Hani Salah through the Sadeen Group — a project that has drawn controversy in Malta, according to the Times of Malta.
Abela’s trip marks the highest-level Maltese visit to Jordan since 2016, when then-Prime Minister Joseph Muscat visited the kingdom. That visit led to the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and Malta’s Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry.
Jordan and Malta established diplomatic relations in 1976.
