Minister Mahafzah, EU envoy Chatzisavas discuss boosting education ties

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah met with European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas on Sunday to discuss expanding cooperation, particularly in education, the Jordan News Agency said.

Mahafzah underlined the importance of the strategic Jordan-EU partnership and outlined ongoing reforms in the education sector, including efforts to improve learning outcomes, teacher training, and infrastructure.

He noted the ministry’s introduction of the BTEC vocational programme with ten specialisations, with two more—sports and healthcare—to be added in the next academic year to better align with labour market needs.

He also emphasised priorities such as curriculum development, technical and vocational education, and digital access. Jordan hosts around 250,000 students from over 85 nationalities, he said, reaffirming the country’s commitment to inclusive, high-quality education despite pressures from regional crises and refugee inflows.

Chatzisavas praised Jordan’s regional role and its efforts to educate refugees. He urged increased participation by Jordanian universities in the EU’s Erasmus programme and called for deeper academic and research ties between Jordan and Europe.
