
Jordan Daily – Jordanian surgeon Mohammed Khrais has established himself as one of the region’s leading specialists in laparoscopic bariatric surgery, earning widespread patient trust across Jordan, the Arab world and internationally over a career spanning more than three decades.
Khrais, a consultant in bariatric surgery, has more than 32 years of medical and humanitarian experience and is widely recognised as a pioneer in obesity surgery. His career has helped elevate Jordan’s reputation in global medical forums.
A graduate of the University of Jordan, Khrais completed advanced surgical training in the United Kingdom and France. He holds a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow and several diplomas from Strasbourg, including in liver and biliary surgery, endoscopy, laparoscopic bariatric surgery, colon and rectal surgery, and gastrointestinal laparoscopy. He also holds the Jordanian Board in general and bariatric surgery.
Khrais is a member of numerous international medical associations, including the British Medical Association, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery, the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders, the International Hernia Society, the European Digestive Surgery and the European Society of Coloproctology.

He founded Al-Kindi Hospital in Amman, a 150-bed facility considered among the most advanced in the region. The hospital hosts specialised centres for bariatric surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, vascular surgery, fertility treatments, lithotripsy, interventional radiology, cancer screening, organ transplantation, cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery. It includes 12 major operating theatres, a modern emergency unit, diagnostic imaging services, medical laboratories and an integrated pharmacy network.
Al-Kindi Hospital has earned multiple accreditations, including recognition from the Jordan Medical Council as a teaching hospital for residency programmes in general surgery, anaesthesia and obstetrics and gynaecology. It is also accredited for internship training and holds HCAC quality certification, mammography unit accreditation and ISO certification for its catering services.
Khrais’s Bariatric Surgery Centre at Al-Kindi Hospital is the only centre in Jordan internationally accredited by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders. He performs a wide array of procedures, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, SASI, gastric bypass, mini-gastric bypass, the butterfly technique, smart capsule insertion, gastric banding and intragastric balloon treatments.
