Moin Kikhia pushes for stronger Libya-UK cooperation in meetings with British MPs

Jordan Daily – Moin Kikhia, Chairman of the Libyan Democratic Institute, visited the United Kingdom for a series of meetings at the British Parliament focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing the situation in Libya.

Kikhia met with Mark Pritchard, Chairman of the UK Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Libya. During their discussions, Kikhia highlighted the importance of the long-standing ties between Libya and the UK and urged the UK to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and national unity in Libya.

In a separate meeting, Kikhia held discussions with Lawrence Robertson, Chairman of the Westminster Africa Business Group, to explore political and trade relations between Libya and the UK. Robertson, who has served as the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Angola and Zambia, also chairs the UK Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Groups for Nigeria and Djibouti.

These meetings underscore a mutual desire to expand cooperation, with Libya aiming to attract British investment and accelerate its development, particularly in infrastructure and the private sector. The British Parliament, for its part, expressed interest in exploring new areas of collaboration to support Libya’s political and economic stability.

Following the meetings, Kikhia stated: “We are working hard to strengthen cooperation with the United Kingdom in ways that serve the interests of the Libyan people and build a sustainable partnership based on trust and mutual benefit. We hope these meetings mark the beginning of strong relations that will benefit both countries.”

These initiatives reflect Libya’s broader efforts to position itself as an attractive destination for international cooperation and investment, particularly as the country moves toward greater stability and sustainable development amid growing global interest in North Africa.
