Jordan Daily – NATO and Jordan marked a new milestone in their partnership on Tuesday with the opening of the Alliance’s first Middle East liaison office in Amman.
The NATO Liaison Office (NLO) will serve as a hub for dialogue, cooperation and regional outreach, building on nearly 30 years of engagement between NATO and Jordan, particularly through the Mediterranean Dialogue, NATO said in a statement seen by Jordan Daily.
Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, attended the opening and met with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Dhaifallah Al-Fayez.
The office aims to strengthen political consultations, advance practical cooperation such as Defence Capacity Building initiatives, and raise public awareness of the NATO-Jordan partnership, NATO noted.
Colomina’s visit to Amman on Sept. 16-17 follows recent high-level contacts, including King Abdullah II’s participation in NATO’s foreign ministers’ meeting in December 2024 and the signing of the legal agreement establishing the liaison office earlier this year.
NATO described the move as part of its Southern Neighbourhood Action Plan and “a testament to NATO’s commitment to reinforcing dialogue and cooperation with its partners, and to enhancing its presence and visibility in the region.”
